Much recent media

Hi all. I've been radio silent lately because of massive tech fail--for about ten days my internet went out every day at sundown, and when it finally got fixed my VCR died, so I was way behind on watching everything, and though I've purchased a VCR/DVR combo it doesn't like my antique television, so I think I'm going to have to break down and buy a new TV. Bleah. And work has been more insane than normal and isn't likely to let up until after Thanksgiving.

Belated thanks to duskwillow for the cute little Halloween spider!

I have brief thoughts on much recent TV I have seen. I think I'll go in reverse chronological order just because it seems logical:

First, tonight's Revenge

Is it sad that I wanted a more complicated backstory for the invention of Emily Thorne than just an identity switch? On the other hand, having CCH Pounder be some sort of mentor figure for her is made of awesome. And the real Emily killing the PI is bound to cause lots of complications, so yay for that.

My favorite part of tonight's episode, though, had to be the Nolan/Tyler hookup. I was NOT expecting that! I mean, I know everyone said Tyler and Daniel had a slashy vibe (or at least Tyler's motives for driving Emily away seemed to be slashy), but I wasn't expecting that to become practically textual! And Nolan also being a Kinsey 3 and allowing himself to be seduced for the cause--DAYUM. I mean, Tyler is a jerk but a hot one, so that was just a very nice visual, and also knowing Nolan is bi makes me think there's a bit of projection going on with the attempts to set up Jack and Emily, which I can totally get behind. rsadelle and I concur that Jack deserves someone better than Emily, so now I am COMPLETELY prepared to ship him with Nolan. (True, Nolan is playing in Emily's revenge game, but he's not as coldblooded as she is, so I don't see him as likely to completely break Jack's heart. Or maybe that's my unashamed slash goggles, I don't know. Honestly I could ship Nolan/Jack OR Nolan/Emily; I just think Nolan's currently the most interesting character on the show).

I continue to want Declan to die in a fire, even though I can see he serves a lot of important plot purposes.

Next, my extremely brief and mainly negative thoughts on this week's H50

As far as I'm concerned, Max in the Neo costume was the only reason to watch that episode. Why did they have to make Danny (a) terminally stupid (who the hell takes their kid trick-or-treating in a hotel? DUH, drive her to a better neighborhood, anyone knows that); (b) completely culturally insensitive (I kept having to mute his scenes because they were making me so upset); and (c) a power-abusing jerk (the way he tried to get that apartment)? I generally like Danny, but I swear I think sometimes this season it's like they're purposely trying to drive away viewers or something. The upshot of this whole dumb storyline better be him moving in with Steve, that's all I can say.

The Good Wife

I didn't really like the main case this week, but I loved getting to see Carey negotiate all the power politics in the State's Attorney's office and actually win for a change. Honestly, for the first part of the episode I thought they were setting it up for him to leave with the consultant, but I was glad to see he got some recognition! In general I just loved getting lots of Carey.

Supernatural: Slash Fiction

Like everyone else, I thought that scene with Dean singing to Air Supply was pretty much the funniest thing ever, but my real take-away from this episode is that Bobby is a Joni Mitchell fan. And secretly still has hope. That warms my heart, actually. I would especially love the fact that they didn't kill of Sheriff Jody [and the kiss!] were it not for the fact that I'm pretty sure she's a Leviathan, just of a rival faction, who wants some hunters to know how to harm them. Because she doesn't strike me as the type of person to randomly do Bobby's housework, so my theory is that was a deliberate ploy to reveal Borax harms them.

This was actually the first episode I unreservedly enjoyed of the whole season. It wasn't as meta as I was expecting, but I was quite amused by the 2 Leviathans playing Sam and Dean, and I'm kind of happy they got the reveal of Dean's secret out of the way so the air is cleared between them. I'm pretty sure they're going to back working together by the next episode, so I'm not too worried about Sam storming off.

Vampire Diaries: Ghost World

I wasn't expecting to like this episode, but I really really did. Mostly I think because of the return of Lexi, who I adored and mourned. I really admired her rapid-detox plan for Stefan, and while of course it couldn't work this early in the season, it was still fun to watch. I also was so happy Bonnie's grandmother got to return, albeit briefly, and that Anna got a little time to reunite with her mother. Basically I just felt this episode had a lot of emotional closure that I didn't even realize I wanted until I saw it onscreen. The love triangle stuff with Bonnie, Anna and Jeremy bored the shit out of me, but I enjoyed the rest of the episode.

Re: Supernatural. Oh, that makes sense about Jody. I thought she was acting strange but, I couldn’t figure out a motive for it. Her being a Leviathan does make sense. As for Dean and Sam, I really liked that they approached not their meatsuits but their meatsuits’ brother. I really liked Sam and Leviathan!Dean vice versa.

Yeah, I definitely liked the interactions with the Leviathans and their "brothers." Mollyamory below unfortunately has a good argument for Jody not being a Leviathan.

I thought that about Jody too, but then she was elbow deep in that Borax herself when they accidentally discovered that it would harm leviathans, wasn't she?

Oh, damn, that would completely bollix that theory. Unless she was wearing rubber gloves? I couldn't tape that episode since my VCR is dead, and I'm not curious enough to download the whole episode again to find out, but I think she might have been wearing rubber gloves.

No gloves! (I have an itunes season pass, so it's right on my ipad; checking at work is probably not cool, but it is pretty easy. :)

She was bare-handed and wringing out the soapy bucket water in two separate clips; in one she has to stop and shake it off of her wet hands. So I think -- for the time being at least -- she's in the clear. I'm sorry! (And yet, also happy. :)

Well, I'm happy she's not a Leviathan, since that would mean the real Jody is dead, so yay for that!

It was so nice finally getting a Cary episode - and I very much enjoyed the bit in the car with the undoing of the seatbelts. HOT.

Oh, yes. This show? Has some of the best sex (and sexual tension) of anything on television, even though they don't do it often enough.

OMG, Revenge! Nolan letting himself be seduced - and clearly enjoying it - was the best thing ever.

H50: Max's costume was not the only good thing about the ep. Kono was also wearing those awesome boots again (although you had to look closely with her all-black ensemble). Too bad that was all that was good about it. I also don't understand this Danny can't find a place to live storyline. I mean, if it were fic, I would know we were just biding time until Steve invites him to move in, but as a running bit on the show, it just seems pointless.

Yeah, I may have to rewatch the episode online just to see that scene again. Or maybe someone will post that scene to Youtube, because HOTNESS.

I didn't notice Kono's boots of awesome, alas.

I'm wondering if Danny really is going to move in with Steve, because like you I can't figure out this storyline, otherwise. I forgot to say one good thing about the ep, though: at least we know for sure Grace and Rachel are back in Hawaii.

I also loved the confirmation that Tyler isn't straight, which gives him this whole other Daniel-related motive. Maybe he's really hoping Daniel will keep him in the style he's accustomed to.

It really makes no sense otherwise. It was kind of nice to see Grace, but I continue to be worried about her. She's so unhappy!

Yes, just making Tyler bi actually opened up a whole range of possible motivations for him. (Two canonical bi characters--I can't get over that! Plus, if one were interested, Emily/Amanda slash, because jailhouse roomies who start out with a physical fight? If real Emily turns out to be an interesting character, that's a whole new realm of slash to explore).

I would be unhappy too if my dad took my trick-or-treating in such a sketchy place, honestly. I am hoping it's just situational unhappiness.

It is pretty amazing that a mainstream TV show has two canonically bi men.

I would not be surprised if stripper!Emily does have a thing for revenger!Emily. Something is keeping her from telling the truth, and it's clearly not money.

But she's always unhappy! It's worrying.

my VCR died
Bummer! Mine is sick (I indulge in magical thinking...maybe it will heal itself!), so I'm thinking I might grab a refurbished one off of ebay.

I'm thinking I should have done that because maybe an older model would actually talk to my TV :-( I hope you find a good one.
